Activity Screen Revamp
Once a month at Hoop HQ, we gather around a table (usually with a packet of haribos) and discuss our priorities for the company. One of the ways we get inspiration about what to build next is from meeting Hoop families on a regular basis at our office.
An area that families suggested needs improvement is the activity screen. The place that tells you everything about the activity - when, where, who, what, why, and how. We have spent the past several weeks looking at how to improve this part of the app and give you the confidence to leave the house and attend an activity. The new and improved activity screen is not only visually appealing (Thank you Tallulah, our designer extraordinaire!) but also has some added features.
We have been collecting ratings and reviews based on your experiences at an activity. Everything from what went well or didn’t go well, how you felt about the venue and any additional comments.
We are now showing you what other families have said about just this. Gone are the days of awkwardly Google street-viewing a venue while balancing a child on one hip to ensure that it is clean, safe and has the facilities you need. The best part is as we continue to grow at Hoop, so will the information that we can provide for you. While not all venues will have a rating immediately, the more families that contribute to Hoop the better it gets for everyone.
We recognise that distance is not the same in every city or countryside. 1 mile can mean a 10-minute walk or 20-minute bus ride. Starting in London we will show the nearest tube station to the venue so you can get a better idea of where you are going and how far it really is.
We have also moved from a text-heavy page to more image-oriented. A fact that always impresses me is that humans process images 60,000 times faster than text. We get it, you don’t always have a lot of time, so for information around parking, cafes on site and baby change, you can scan the page and see the icons clearly listed.
While there is always more work to be done we hope we have now given you the confidence to leave the house, experience a new activity and become the source of information for what is going on locally for families.
If you have any ideas of what we should be working on next or want to share some feedback about this feature or others, please feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you to the 200+ families who completed our activity screen survey and to all the families who came and continue to speak with us. Your insights are truly valuable.
